Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - The Log O¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ The Norseman is a historical fiction novel written by J.W. Gilbart-Smith and first published in 1884. The story is set in the 10th century and follows the adventures of a young Norseman named Eric Thorgrimsson. Eric is the son of a wealthy and powerful Viking chief, but he…is not content with his life in the fjords of Norway. He yearns for adventure and glory, and so he sets out on a journey to explore new lands and make a name for himself.Eric¿¿¿¿¿¿¿s journey takes him to England, where he becomes embroiled in the conflict between the Anglo-Saxons and the invading Danes. He fights bravely on the side of the Danes, but he also develops a deep respect for the English people and their way of life. As the war rages on, Eric must navigate treacherous alliances and betrayals, all while trying to stay true to his own sense of honor and loyalty.Throughout the book, Gilbart-Smith paints a vivid picture of life in the Viking Age, with detailed descriptions of battles, raids, and everyday activities. He also explores themes of identity, loyalty, and cultural clash, as Eric struggles to reconcile his Viking heritage with his growing appreciation for the English way of life.Overall, The Log O¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ The Norseman is a thrilling adventure story that offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of the Vikings and their interactions with other cultures. It is a timeless tale of heroism, bravery, and the search for a sense of purpose in a rapidly changing world. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. pp. xvi, 138, (xxxii) Advertisements. 16 folding maps by G. W. BACON and many text illustrations. Original cloth, a very good copy. *Although mostly topographical, some of the illustrations illustrate cycles - for example, the new Rudge-Whitworth shop interior in Regents Street, a soldier operating a cycle-typewriter [Remington]… and an Acatenè Cycle on an Hatherley Stand. The Introduction to the Cycles states - 'Foremost among the modern influences which promote the onward movement of mankind, the cycle takes its rank.Cycling does more, it teaches self-reliance, which otherwise millions have never learnt.' Pages 115 to 120 comprise ' The Ladies' Page ', by ROSAMUNDE VON OELRICHS, author of ' A Woman on Wheels '. There follows a six-page section on Cycle Accessories, including a Remington typewriter. The advertisements largely promote cycles and related requirements. COPAC records copies at the BL, the Guildhall Library and the NLS. WORLDCAT adds University of Manchester. A second edition was issued in the same year.
