Soft cover. Condition: Fine. No Jacket. Historic B&W Photographs (illustrator). Revised Edition. From about 1920 to 1945 Jack Moomaw was a park ranger at Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP). This is a collection of short stories of the unusual or outstanding events that occurred during his tenure as a park ranger. There are quaint stories of colorful people he met or knew, and stories of rescues and tragedies. Jack was an extremely hardy soul; he loved winter patrols and survived in cold weather that sent others to the hospital. He dabbled in archeology and was a huge chauvinist (it's best to try and see the humor in his antiquated attitude toward women). He wrote in a very matter-of-fact style that is easy to read. Stories are short (just a few pages) and provide an interesting glimpse pf the "old days of park rangering" at RMNP. In 1978, Lulabeth & Jack R. Melton visited the RMNP museum and saw a 1st edition of this book, "Recollections of a Rocky Mountain Ranger" (1963) in a locked case. This inspired them to begin a search to find a copy of the book and to find out more about this Jack C. Moomaw (1892-1974) who wrote the book. 16 years later, they had found copies of the original book and family members with photographs to publish this reprint with an expanded biography of the author and more of his writings. Jackie Johnson served as a research associate on this project. viii + 209pp. Oversized softcover shows indent on covers as the only evidence this is not a new book. Interior is tight, clean, and unmarked. Carefully stored and handled, has no creases with square corners. Copyright 1994. Original edition copyright 1963. No specific edition/print-run info found. Fraley famously co-authored "The Untouchables" alongside Eliot Ness. He was a sports writer with United Press International for over 25 years. A very rare signed association copy. Dempsey reigned as World Heavyweight Boxing Champ from 1919 to 1926. His 1921 fight against Georges Carpentier reported the first million dollar gate for a boxing event. His 1927 Tunney match netted a record-breaking two million dollar gate. While his accomplishments in the ring were 100 years ago, his name recognition and legacy continues to this day. Book exhibits a hint of wear to board edges. DJ a bit worn at edges and folds with some minor chipping to crown and foot of spine. Overall a solid VG/VG copy with an incredible association. Signed.
