Rollins College was founded in 1885 by a group of northerners who wanted to give the children of Florida's rapidly growing population the opportunity to experience a New England education. This pictorial history depicts the insitution as it grew from a college of three wooden buildings on the shores of Lake Virginia in Winter Park to a startlingly beautiful sixty-acre campus of Spanish-Mediterranean architecture. It also depicts the men and women who dedicated their lives to keeping the struggling little college alive during serious economic and financial adversity. And finally it shows the students' changing lifestyles, from the prim and proper world of the Victorian age to the free and anti-establishment social world of the 1960s and the 1970s.
