Hardcover. Condition: Very Good ++. The author of these 224 pages describes herself as the wife of Thomas Henry Manning. I prefer her maiden name (see above). LEARN more about : Sugluk, Herring Gull, Cape Weggs, Coral Harbour, Canso aircraft, Eager Beaver, Geodetic Service of Canada, Port Churchill, Soralee, The White One, Hantzsch River, muktuk, seal, and black lichen. A brilliant little book about early sub-Arctic exploration. The year is 1944. Text accompanied by b/w photographs. I concede that the 60 plus pages at the back are the work of T.H. Henry. They are very detailed ornithological observations. (Think - inter alia - Lesser Scaup Duck, Hudson Bay Eider, and Baird's Sandpiper). Cond : Boards are green with slightlu faded gilt lettering on spine. Dust jacket is missing. End-papers are (green tone) maps of the Okkak to Carr Lake region. Clean ,tight, bright, and collectible ! ! No names marks, creases, nor tears. Quote (p. 115) : " Getting out of the harbour was distinctly unpleasant, and I shall always remember it as being one of the experiences I should not choose to repeat. It was low tide to begin with, and as soon as we got far enough from land to catch the full sweep of the wind, the waves lifted us, held us for a moment semingly ._._._. ." Size: Octavo.
