From the Preface- "Our transcription is a typographic facsimile that is intended to render, as exactly as possible, the integrity of the original documents. We have preserved the writers' original words, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization, as well as such other features as strikeouts and insertions. It is a line-by-line transcription, preserving the line endings of the original pages. It is presented without commentary and with a minimum of notes that help explain the writing visible on the manuscript pages.".
