Pleine toile bleue chinée, dos muet. Rare album de 37 dessins originaux (encre, gouache, crayon de couleur) dus à l'artiste danois Robert Jacobsen dédicacé à sa femme, Hélène Jacobsen et daté 18 aout 1966. Robert Jacobsen (1912-1993) est un sculpteur et peintre danois originaire de Copenhague. Cet autodidacte issu d'un milieu modeste réalise ses premières sculptures en bois à18 ans. Après avoir découvert la peinture de Klee, Kandinsky ou encore Mondrian, il suit l'enseignement d'un sculpteur et d'un tailleur de pierre. En 1941, il expose au Salon d'automne de Copenhague. En 1947, il bénéficie d'une bourse de l'État français et vient à Paris. Il partage un logement avec Richard Mortensen puis Asger Jorn, installé à Suresnes, au sein d'une communauté d'artistes danois. Il réalise des sculptures en fer soudé dont il dit : « La soudure fut ma chance. Ainsi je suis devenu un sculpteur de ferraille. C'est tout, il n'y a pas à broder, ni de belles histoires à inventer. Avec la pierre, tu vogues entre les formes. Avec du fer, tu sais la forme, tu choisis l'espace ». Il organise sa première exposition en 1950 et reçoit le grand prix de la Biennale de Venise en 1966. Dans les années 1970, il revient au Danemark pour honorer des commandes publiques. Une grande statue de lui est exposée en permanence devant la gare de Copenhague. En 1962, il devient professeur à l'Académie des beaux-arts de Munich et à l'Académie royale des beaux-arts du Danemark de 1976 à 1985. Robert Jacobsen a eu le génie de réaliser de magnifiques statues abstraites avec des plaques de tôle, genre qui donne généralement des objets encombrants et prétentieux. Chez lui, au contraire le métal délimite des volumes d'ombre et de vide d'une rare harmonie, et qui portent à penser. Dans l'ouvrage « Figures » que lui a consacré son compatriote I. Meyerson (Paris, 1957), il est écrit (P 4) : « L'atelier de Jacobsen. Une courette. Une petite porte. On descend deux marches. On est dans un grand hangar : 12 mètres de long sur 6 de large et 6 de haut. A droite, un mur blanchi à la chaux ; à gauche, deux fenêtres hautes ; dans le fond, une grande porte vitrée à petits carreaux ; un plafond à poutres apparentes. Sur le mur, sur des étagères, sur des sellettes, par terre, des sculptures abstraites en fer, ces constructions de volumes d'air qui ont créé le nouvel espace de la sculpture. Au milieu : deux établis, un poste de soudure à l'arc, une grosse enclume, une bille de bois portant la grande cisaille, des chalumeaux et des bouteilles d'acétylène et d'oxygène. Contre les fenêtres : un tour électrique, deux établis encore et un tableau noir, où sont posés, rangés, accrochés étaux, perceuses, polisseuses, ponceuses, marteaux, pinces, tenailles, cisailles, pinces à crocodile, forets, limes. Dans le coin à gauche au fond, deux grandes caisses : les caisses aux trésors. Les créations de Jacobsen peuvent se diviser en deux catégories : d'un côté, les figures et silhouettes réalisées lors de son « temps libres », poétiques et légères, parfois inspirées de l'art primitif qu'il collectionnait et, de l'autre, la facette la plus connue de son travail consistant en des constructions géométriques que l'artiste peint en noir afin de leur donner l'apparence de dessins dans l'espace.
