Critique extrêmement vive des textes de Desargues sur la coupe des pierres, la perspective, les quadrans et la manière de placer le style. L'ouvrage contient des citations d'ouvrages de Desargues qui sont aujourd'hui perdus ou connus à un seul exemplaire. Rappelons que c'est à Desargues que l'on doit l'introduction des principes de la géométrie dans la pratique de la perspective. Il ne publia plus rien après cette date et se tourna entièrement vers la pratique de l'architecture. C'est dans cet ouvrage que l'on trouve (p. 71) une mention de " la Pascale", Curabelle citant Desargues : "quand cette grande proposition nommée la Pascale verra le jour. Et le dit Pascal peut dire que les quatre premiers livres d'Apollonius sont ou bien un cas, ou bien une conséquence immédiate de cette grande proposition". Desargues usait d'un style bizarre et obscur et demeura incompris de la plupart de ses contemporains. Illustré par un beau titre gravé et 16 gravures dans le texte, certaines à pleine page. Rare première et unique édition de la pièce centrale dans la querelle opposant l'architecte Curabelle à Desargues, le fondateur de la géométrie projective. L'ouvrage est illustré de 16 figures géométriques gravées dans le texte, dont 6 à pleine page. "Maître du jeune Pascal, qui le connut dans l'entourage du père Mersenne et sur lequel il exerça une influence considérable, Girard Desargues est considéré comme le fondateur de la géométrie projective. Selon l'historien des mathématiques René Taton, il fut "certainement le géomètre le plus fécond et le plus original du XVIIe siècle". Mais l'originalité de sa pensée n'alla pas sans rencontrer de fortes résistances, dont témoigne parmi d'autres l'Examen des uvres du Sr Desargues publié en 1644 par l'architecte Jacques Curabelle. Touché au vif, Desargues répondit à cette réfutation avec une extrême vivacité et déclencha l'une des plus virulentes polémiques scientifiques du XVIIe siècle, dont les enjeux débordaient le seul milieu des mathématiciens : parce que c'est en particulier de la théorie de la perspective qu'il était question, elle intéressait aussi les peintres, dessinateurs et graveurs, à l'exemple d'Abraham Bosse qui offrit à Desargues un soutien très actif. Exemplaire annoté par deux mains différentes, développant des démonstrations géométriques, la première du XVIIe siècle, probablement de l'époque (pages 20-21 ), la seconde légèrement postérieure, fin XVIIe ou début XVIIIe (pages 28-31). La seconde main a apporté des corrections dans le texte et dessiné un petit diagramme à côté d'une figure gravée. Les triangles BOD, KOD sont egaux et semblables, car ils ont tous les costez egaux chacun au sien, donc l'angle OKD est égal à l'angle OBD c'est-à-dire OFH qui est son egal a cause des paralleles AE, FH. Donc les triangles OYK, OZF sont égaux et semblables et rectangles, donc l'angle HYF est droit. Et OZ est egal a OY. Et partant les restantes ZK, YF sont egales, donc les triangles rectangles HZK, HYF sont egaux et semblables, et HK, HF sotn egales, et H est centre d'un cercle qui passe par K et F. De plus le centre D estant en BD, l'arc KLB touchera la droite perpendiculaire sur BD en B. De mesme l'arc KMF touchera FE perpend[iculairement] sur HF en F. Et les deux cercles ayant leurs centres D H dans la mesme droite DHK, leurs circonferences se toucheront en K, ce qu'il falloit demonstrer."
