Sin marcas, anotaciones ni subrayados.- // Proc.: Sin datos.- // Refs.: No aparece en las bibliografías.- // Esta rarísima versión francesa de la que solo localizamos noticia de otro ejemplar(1), reune dos de los más célebres textos escatológicos, a los que actualmente se clasifica denro de la corriente apocalíptica bizantina.El primero, la Oratio de consumatione mundi (homilía del fin del mundo), es un texto que, atribuido al obispo Hipólito (¿-235), había circulado ampliamente como manuscrito en versiones griegas y latinas en la Edad Media, pero que no pasó por la imprenta hasta que, en 1556, Jean Picot, presidente de las Chambres des Enquêtes del Parlamento de Paris, editó el tetxo griego con traducción anotada al latín a partir de un manuscrito conservado en Venecia, en un impreso que posteriormente adquirió mucha fama, si bien es cierto que en gran medida se debió a que circuló la confusión de que los comentarios eran de mano de Pico della Mirandola(2). En todo caso, la oratio de pseudo-Hipólito había recuperado su protagonismo en la escatología cristiana como una de las versiones estándar del apocalipsis que culmina en el fin de los tiempos con la segunda llegada de Jesucristo, quizás porque hace más énfasis en las catástrofes, en el declive moral y en la propagación de doctrinas heréticas(3). A título de curiosidad, el Psuedo-Hipólito es el único apocalipsis en interpretar la clave 666 del Anticristo como APNOYME, 'yo niego'.El segundo de los textos recogidos, el Apocalipsis de pseudo-Metodio, atribuido inicialmente a Metodio de Patara, víctima de Diocleciano hacia el 312, fue obra de un autor desconocido de la Alta Mesopotamia de finales del siglo séptimo, que lo escribió en siríaco, circulando manuscrito en numerosas lenguas en contacto con Bizancio. Frente a las profecías cristiano bizantinas del apocalipsis al uso el autor de esta introdujo novedades de actualidad en el relato que justificarían su difusión, como la emergencia del Islam y un nuevo personaje, el 'último emperador', que lo combatirá y restaurará la felicidad anterior al diluvio, hasta que el mal (personificado en Gog y Magog) regrese dando paso al reinado del Anticristo que sería posteriormente derrotado por el Mesías para su reinado milenario. El texto circuló manuscrito, con traducciones a diversas lenguas, a lo largo de la Edad Media, e impreso, siempre en latín, desde 1475(4).Respecto al traductor, Jacques Desmay, por las portadas de sus diferentes publicaciones -de algunas, como de esta, solo localizamos la existencia de un ejemplar- puede averiguarse que, siendo bachiller en Teología por la Sorbona y canónigo en Peronne, escribió una biografía hagiográfa de san Fursa, patrón de la localidad, que imprimió en 1607 en París (reediciones en 1623 y en 1714), en el taller de Eustache Foucault, impresor para quien también tradujo ese mismo año L'Horloge de dévotion sur la vie et passion de Jésus-Christ, de Bertoldo el Teutónico(5). A ellas siguió al año siguiente en la misma imprenta la traducción de estos textos de la escatología apocalíptica cristiana que ofrecemos, en los que, habiendo.
