Rare exemplaire, en reliure uniforme du XVIIIe siècle. Première édition bilingue gréco-latine (sur deux colonnes), de cette anthologie des poètes grecs. L'ouvrage constitue une précieuse synthèse des travaux d'analyse et de traduction effectués à la Renaissance sur les auteurs anciens. Les deux premiers volumes, consacrés aux poètes épiques, sont établis par Jacques Lect d'après le florilège grec du même titre compilé par Henri Estienne et publié pour la première fois en 1566 : on y trouve les oeuvres d'Homère, les Argonautiques orphiques, les oeuvres de Callimaque, Bion, Aratos de Soles, Nicandre (une pièce n'est présente qu'en grec, le compilateur n'en ayant pas trouvé une traduction latine satisfaisante), Denys le Périégète, Coluthos, Tryphiodore, Theognis, Apollonios de Rhodes, Oppien de Syrie, Quintus de Smyrne, Nonnos de Panapolis. Les volumes 3 et 4 sont consacrés aux tragédiens, auteurs de comédies et compositeurs d'épigrammes. On y trouve les oeuvres de Sophocle, Euripide, Eschyle, Aristophane, Ezechiel, Pindare, Manuel Philès, Georges de Pisidie, Jean Tzétzès, Clément d'Alexandrie, et plusieurs compilations. Les auteurs des traductions du grec en latin n'étant que rarement cités par les compilateurs, leurs sources mériteraient d'être étudiées plus avant. Une édition des tomes 1 et 2 parue à la même date porte au titre du premier volume l'adresse Ğ Petrus de la Rouière ğ. Cette-dernière est presque en tous points identique, mais le feuillet (blanc ici) après la dédicace y est imprimé (avis au lecteur, Ğ Poetarum Graecorum Lectoris ğ). Réimpression du XVIIIe siècle établie vers 1780, avec la mention fictive d'édition et de date de l'originale (Paris, Le Bret, 1606) de ce texte polémique de propagande anti-savoyarde de grande importance pour l'histoire de Genève et de la Savoie du XVIIe siècle. Ğ Véritable source documentaire de cette époque, cet ouvrage est une réponse à celui de Claude-Louis Buttet Le Cavalier de Savoye ou Response au Soldat Français paru pour la première fois en 1605. Originellement, ce pamphlet fut publié de la part de Jean Sarasin, diplomate, et Jacques Lect, qui furent des négociateurs de la paix de Saint-Julien en 1603 ğ (Bombadil).Bel exemplaire enrichi de la très rare planche repliée (40 x 27 cm) attribuée à François Diodati (1647-1690) : Vraye représentation de l'Escalade entreprise sur Genève par les Savoyards et sa belle délivrance l'An 1602. La vue de Genève sous l'assaut des Savoyards est entourée de nombreuses vignettes représentant les événements de la nuit de l'Escalade du 12 décembre 1602 qui vit la victoire de la république protestante sur les troupes du duc de Savoie Charles-Emmanuel Ier, ainsi qu'un historique depuis l'arrivée de la Réforme à Genève en 1535. La liste des Genevois décédés durant la nuit complète le tableau.Cette gravure est décrite par Hermann Hammann (Les Représentations graphiques de l?Escalade, 1898, pp. 16-18), qui lui attribue la date de 1667 : Ğ La vue est entourée, sur tous ses côtés, d'une bordure historiée, large de cinq centimètres, divisée en seize compartiments par des branches de laurier ; cinq des compartiments représentant de batailles entre Genève et la Savoie ; une est relative à la Réformation et six figures des épisodes de l'Escalade. Celui du milieu, en haut, est orné de deux armoiries de Genève, surmontées de la double aigle impériale et de la couronne, que deux lions soutiennent. Le compartiment du milieu, en bas, contient les noms des Genevois morts pour leur patrie, et les deux derniers sont garnis de médaillons ronds montrant des sujets allégoriques. La vue proprement dite embrasse toute la ville de Genève, les ponts bâtis et Saint-Gervais, depuis Cornavin et le bastion du Pin, vue prise depuis Plainpalais. (?) Quoique cette gravure soit dépourvue de millésime, je n'hésite pas à mettre son exécution après 1647, parce que l'on y voir représenter et mentionner dans les légendes le Grenier à blé du Cendrier dont la construction a été commencée le 1er octobre 1645 et parachevée le 1 juillet 1647 ainsi qu'on lit dans l'inscription qui décore cet édifice.
