Importante monografia sul maestro dell'affiche Leonetto Cappiello (Livorno 1875 - Cannes 1942), redatta da Jacques Viénot (fondatore dell'Institut Français du Design) poco dopo la morte del grande cartellonista italiano. Nato a Livorno nel 1875 e trasferitosi in Francia alla fine del XIX Secolo, Cappiello trovò dapprima il successo come caricaturista collaborando a Le rire, Le sourire, Le cri de Paris e altri periodici e pubblicando alcuni fortunati album; fin dal 1900 si dedicò alla realizzazione di manifesti per le maggiori stamperie francesi (Vercasson, Imprimeries réunies, Devambez), affermandosi rapidamente come uno dei più grandi artisti dell'epoca d'oro dell'affiche e firmando alcune tra le più celebri immagini pubblicitarie degli anni '20 e '30 per Campari, Cinzano, Thermogène, Dubonnet, Job, Nil, ecc. Il volume, tirato in 2975 copie, ripercorre la carriera artistica di Cappiello illustrando la produzione di caricature, manifesti, dipinti e disegni con riproduzioni in nero e a colori. Prefazione di Jean Cocteau, elenco dei personaggi ritratti in caricatura, cronologia artistica. Originally published in paperback, but now handsomely bound in a modern cloth covered boards with gold top edge and stamped leather spine label. What had been the dustjacket of its paperback state has been bound in as the title page. There is some sunning to the blue cloth boards, particularly on the spine, but otherwise the most minimal of shelfwear. The binding is tight and solid with a clean, unmarked interior.
