After the Normandy landings, over 25 major airborne operations were planned by the Allied high command and cancelled for one reason or another. Finally, on September 10th, 1944, Field Marshall Montgomery met with Dwight Eisenhower at Melsbroek airfield outside of Brussels. At this meeting, Montgomery won approval for an ambitious plan to allow the Allies to drive from Belgium through Holland and then cross the Rhine River into Germany â an operation that called for three airborne divisions to be landed in stages over three days miles behind enemy lines - code name: Market Garden. Product Description: On June 6th, 1944, the Allied invasion of France began, an undertaking that involved 12,000 planes, 7,000 ships, and over 160,000 men on the first day alone. After a brief, but bloody struggle, the beachheads were secured, and the land campaign could begin. The Allied troops would face bitter fighting in the hedgerows of Normandy for the next month before Operation Cobra, the operation to break out from the Normandy beachhead, began. The battle for Normandy would go on for more than two months, with Allied troops pushing south and east into France. It would see counterattacks by the Germans at Mortain, and the closing of the Falaise pocket. It would include the liberation of Paris, and the German retreat across the Seine. At the end of August, the Commonwealth troops in the north would plan to move through the Low Countries, while the Americans attempted to push to the Rhine through Lorraine. The end of the war was growing nearer. This book presents ten exciting and balanced historical battles for Command Decision covering the fighting in the American sector from June to September 1944. These scenarios come complete with historical summaries, detailed maps, and carefully-researched orders of battle. About this Item: Test of Battle Games, 1999. Softcover. Condition: New. Test of Battle Games Command Decision (4th Edition) When Olympus Trembled - Operations Marita, Merkur & Herkules (MINT/New) Manufacturer: Test of Battle Games Product Line: Command Decision (4th Edition) Type: Softcover Code: TB0156 Copyright Date: 2013 Author: Jake Strangeway Page Count: 78 Please review the condition and any condition notes for the exact condition of this item. All pictures are stock photos. The condition of the item you will receive is MINT/New. Our grading system is explained in the terms of sale section of our bookseller page. Please feel free to contact us with any questions. Product Description: In 1941 the German Army launched the invasion of Greece and then later the airborne assault on Crete. The two operations were both planned and executed quickly, and with almost disastrous results. The fighting on Crete was vicious, and the casualties among the German forces so great that it caused the cancellation of the last of the above operations â the invasion of Malta. Unlike the invasion of Crete, which was rushed and undertaken against numerically superior Allied forces, the invasion of Malta was very well planned, and would have been done with overwhelming numbers. It is indeed fortunate for the Allied war effort that the operation was cancelled. Whatâs inside: An overview history of Operations Marita, Merkur, and Herkules covering the invasions of Greece, Crete, and the proposed invasion of Malta. 10 historical battles presented as game battles â from the opening drive into Northern Greece to the air assault on Crete, to the fictional drive across Malta to the capital of Valletta. TO&E charts for all Greek Divisions in the Greco-Italian War and Operation Marita including organizational and equipment changes. Corps and army level non-divisional units in the Greek Army: numbers, types and organizations including corps and army artillery, cavalry, engineer and AA units. Seller Inventory # 2148616518
