Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. xvi, 320pp. Translated from the Spanish by Rev. William M'Donald. Bound in original red cloth, with black decorations and gilt lettering to spine and front cover. Volume admits to a number of small bumps to extremities and light to medium wear in places, though this is not offensive. Gilt lettering remains clear and bright. Benziger Brothers book label to front paste-down. Binder label to back paste-down. A number of leaves admit to minor dings and short tears (appears to be from the "opening" process), though this doesn't effect the reading of the text and again is not terribly offensive. Mild foxing to interior. Save for a few pencil marks and notes, text clean. Overall, remains a nice, clean, well preserved and largely attractive copy of this scarce title.

The friend, exposed to a barrage of philosophical ideas and faced with the existence of many religions, questions the validity of the Catholic faith. The author seeks to dispel religious doubts and misconceptions through insightful and thought-provoking letters. He begins by assuring him that the Catholic faith is not an enemy of reason and philosophy, and that the existence of many religions should not lead him to reject the existence of God entirely. The author argues that, while many religions contradict each other, the existence of God and his providence are undeniable. The book explores the author's personal journey of faith and his belief that Catholicism offers the truest path to God. Through his letters, the author examines the problems of reconciling human freedom with divine providence and predestination, the nature of evil and suffering, and the ultimate purpose of human existence. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
