Established in 1946, The Southern Conference Educational Fund was the educational arm of the Southern Conference for Human Welfare. By 1947, it fu…nctioned as a separate organization, based in New Orleans, directed by James A. Dombrowski, advocating for civil rights and integration in education in the South [cf 'History of the Southern Conference Educational Fund,' Georgia State University Library]. Devoted to the 'First Southwide Conference on Discrimination in Higher Education,' held at Atlanta University, on April 8th, 1950; prints a two-page introduction by James A. Dombrowski, Director of the Southern Conference Educational Fund, discussing the results of a poll of 15,000 college and university educators in 'southern States,' finding that seventy percent "favored admitting Negroes now to existing graduate and professional schools without segregation." Also contains a 'Message to the Conference' by Albert Einstein (one paragraph statement, concluding: "Your fight is not easy, but in the end you will succeed"), and contributions by E. Franklin Frazier (Keynote address: "The Crisis in the Education of the Negro"), Lyle Saunders, Aubrey Williams et al. Also prints Conference Resolution ("We Take Our Stand"), program for the First Southwide Conference on Discrimination in Higher Education, and a list of sponsors from eighteen states and the District of Columbia.
