Gschwind is a non-fiction book that provides a historical account of the Union Pacific Railroad's Kansas Division, likely focusing on its operations, particularly d…uring the era of steam locomotives. The book is part of a series by the authors that documents different divisions of the Union Pacific Railroad. These books are known for their detailed historical information and photographs related to railroad operations and history in the Western United States. Key aspects of the book include: Focus on the Kansas Division: It specifically covers the history and operations along the Union Pacific lines in the state of Kansas. Railroad History: Ehernberger is a prolific railroad historian, and his works are typically rich in details about the development and day-to-day workings of the railroad. Steam Locomotives: The title "Smoke Above the Plains" suggests an emphasis on the steam era of railroading, characterized by the smoke produced by steam engines. Other books in the authors' series cover other divisions, such as Smoke Across the Prairie: Union Pacific, Nebraska Division and Smoke Over the Divide: Union Pacific, Wyoming Division, indicating a consistent focus on the history of specific segments of the Union Pacific system.

Add to basketSoft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. RAILROADS SHERMAN HILL UNION PACIFIC EHERNBERGER & GSCHWIND 1978 SIGNED. This is the story of the Union Pacific and how it got over the Rocky Mountains in Wyoming at Sherman Hill. I found several copies of this book online but only one signed by both authors. Please find: Sherman Hi…ll by James L. Ehernberger and Francis G. Gschwind. This large soft cover book (8 ½ x 11 inches, 128 pages) was published by E&G Publications of Callaway, Nebraska dated 1978 and the Second Printing (so stated). The book is lavishly illustrated throughout with vintage b&w photos of the Union Pacific efforts to get over the Rocky Mountains in Wyoming. There is a railroad route map of Sherman Hill as an illustration on the back cover. Condition: This book is in very good condition. There has been some rubbing to the finish front and back with minor loss but nothing extreme (please see the photos). The corners are slightly bumped and cracking of the finish along the front gutter shows but is not really affecting the integrity of the book. Inside the only marks I found are the signatures of the two authors on the title page; the rest of the book is bright white and clean throughout, without toning or foxing. The binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder. Signed by Author.
