This set comprises Volume I-X (12 issues to each, January-December) of The Evergreen, a monthly American church magazine promoted for Christian families.Very scarce to find completed single volumes, never mind multi-volume sets such as this.Containing a variety of religious essays, poems, moral tales, biographies, obituaries and more concerning the Church, faith, its scriptures and important figures.Edited by Joseph Salkeld, James Mackay and William H. Onderdonk.Previously held at the General Theological Seminary Library in New York. "Purchased from the fund bequeathed to the Seminary by Eugene Augustus Hoffman, D. D. Dean 1879-1902". With the library bookplate to each front paste down.Mixed bindings, six of which are in original blind-stamped cloth with gilt to the spines.Volumes I-VI were published under the title The Evergreen, or Church-Offering for all Seasons; A Repository of Religious, Literary, and Entertaining Knowledge for the Christian Family. Volume VII removed Church-Offering for All Seasons. Vol II front board is only being held by amateur tape reinforcement. With loss to the head of its back strip. Front joint to Vol V and rear joint to Vol IV tender. Lifting to the back strip of Vol IV and loss to the head of Vol V back strip. Inner hinges to Vol I, III, and X reinforced. Fading to several of the cloth spines and marks to the boards. Rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are generally bright, with scattered spotting of varying degrees throughout the set. Heaviest instance to Vol III. Toning and offsetting to several endpapers. Tide mark affecting the first few leaves of Vol IV. Contemporary ink inscription to front free endpaper of Vol V. Good Only. book.
