Dark blue boards, blind stamped border edges and gilt crest on cover, gilt title on spine (faded); spotting on front and back covers, front and back hinges starting. Penned autographs (2) on fly leaf. James Louis Petigru was a patriot devoted to the advancement of the physical and social welfare of his native state, South Carolina. He remained a Federalist and a Whig, considered the Constitution as an inspired document and love of the Union was part of his religion (taken from Preface written by James Petigru Carson.
