First Edition
Hardcover. First Edition. 1st edition thus? 160pp. Sm 8vo. As one would expect from Doubleday at this time, "First edition" is stated on the copyright page, but the title page is a cancel (page added to the text block after printing), and what makes me nervous is that a "2" in parentheses appears at the bottom of the last page of text, Appleton's designation for a second printing. Also, there is a small piece of cloth with "Doubleday" printed on it glued to the foot of the spine (covering up "Appleton" ?). Did Appleton, for some reason, sell what appears to be the second printing of one of its titles to Doubleday? A fine copy in a fine dust jacket but for a wavy front panel. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Book.
