First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 146 pages, hardcover with photo illustrated dust jacket, 6.75" by 6.25". Text in Czech. Rare and exemplary photo pictorial on the city of Prague by midcentury Czech photographer Marie Sechtlova, who was at the forefront of Czech documentary work of the period (along with Eva Fukova, Milon Novotny, Josef Prosek, and others), with a strong humanist angle enriched by Modernist approaches. Beautifully printed in photogravure (including the endpapers) and with creative and effective layout throughout, some photos accompanied by poems by Czech writer Jan Noha. Highest recommendation. Rare - OCLC shows only four copies in American institutions. In excellent condition save for general edgewear to the dust jacket (common to Czech books from the period), with a 1.25-inch tear at the top of the spine. Interior fresh and clean.
