Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Munro, Jane A. Philip Wilson Steer 1860-1942 : paintings and watercolours. An exhibition organised by the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge and the Arts Council of Great Britain. Exhibition selected by Jane A. Munro. The catalogue is sponsored by Associated British Foods, plc. Paperback catalogue, 1986. VG. Illustrated card covers with light shelfwear to edges, a crease to reverse opening corner and a few small marks and scratches. Binding strong. 84pp., colour and b/w reproductions. Contents clean and bright. Philip Wilson Steer OM was a British painter of landscapes, seascapes plus portraits and figure studies. He was also an influential art teacher. His sea and landscape paintings made him a leading figure in the Impressionist movement in Britain but in time he turned to a more traditional English style, clearly influenced by both John Constable and J. M. W. Turner, and spent more time painting in the countryside rather than on the coast. As a painting tutor at the Slade School of Art for many years he influenced generations of young artists.
