Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Later printing. Very good or better with a neat gift inscription on the front free endpaper, some offsetting to the endpapers, pages evenly toned throughout, and some bumping overall, in a worn, good only dust jacket with a large chip to the top of the front panel affecting the title, and a large chip to the bottom of the rear panel, also affecting the text. Janey Canuck was the pseudonym of Emily Murphy, a Canadian writer and women's rights activist. Appointed in 1916, she was the first woman magistrate in Canada and in the British Empire. Among her well-known contributions to feminism was her work with The Famous Five, insisting that women be considered "qualified persons" under Canadian law, which would enable them to serve in the Senate, a case they eventually won. Alas, she also believed in eugenics and, partially because of her strong campaigning, the Sexual Sterilization Act of 1928 was passed in Alberta, Canada.
