Size: 10/12 x 8 1/2 inches. Page number: 458, 432, 374, 413. With 57 of the numbered 64 engravings present, plus decorative flourishes in the test. Many of the maps and images fold out. Condition: Very Good. The pages, but for some light foxing in all 4 volumes, and other marks of no particular significance, are very fresh. They have very uneven edges and are held together by just one stitch. It is my impression that the book when bought would have been bound according to the choice of the owner and it is for this reason that the whole is rather loosely put together. A few of the pages are torn at the edges. The pages in the later part of Book 2 have worm holes and these affect some of the prints. The front and back pages of all 4 volumes are slightly grubby where they have not been protected by jackets. There is a small water mark on the frontispiece, a portrait of Captain Cook. Seven plates from a total of 64 are missing. These are nos. 2, 15 and 16 from the first Volume : nos. 24, 28 and 33 the second and no 41 from the third. A heavy set.
