In the fall of 1991 Roger de la Burdé held an exhibition of some of his art collection at Virginia Commonwealth University's School of the Arts, Anderson Gallery. This is the published catalog for the exhibit, titled "Private Stories, Selections from the de la Burdé Collection". The exhibit featured the paintings of Michael Goldberg, Rainer Gross, Jay Milder, and Jeff Way, and was was held from August 23 to October 20, 1991. A typed letter from Roger de la Burdé to a potential patron, dated September 1991, is signed in black ink by Burdé. . The de la Burdé story , itself, became anything but private, when in March of 1992 he was found dead from a bullet wound to the head. Roger de la Burdé was a controversial person, hailing from Poland, who styled himself a count. He owned considerable collections of art, focusing on African Art and Modern Art. The catalog here presented is of Contemporary Art, and has striking color reproductions of the paintings. The letter, signed by Burdé in ink, was found pressed between the leaves of the catalog, and is addressed to a potential patron of the arts and typed on his personal stationery, which has printed at the top, Roger Z. Cte de la Burdé, Windsor, Powhatan, Virginia. The letter is dated September 12, 1991. CONDITION -- This is a previously owned book that remains clean and presentable, with the following particulars noted :: -- Interior is clean and unmarked; there is fading along spine fold and edge - most extensive on rear cover; a small impact dent on the front cover is barely perceptible, but has extended through all the pages in a slightly more obvious manner - this is not so egregious and displays on the interior as a small dent and surface wrinkle. The letter is pristine.
