Jacket bright with mild edgewear, light surface rubbing, and some spine spotting. Textblock clean and unmarked. Former owner's neatly penciled Wedgwood inventory and valuations on rear endpaper add a vintage provenance touch. Edition & Printing: Copyright 1950 by M. Barrows & Company. This is a Gramercy Publishing Company reprint edition, issued ca. mid-1950s under Crown Publishers by arrangement with Barrows. The A-H sequence line denotes an internal press code rather than first-edition status; the true first edition was published by M. Barrows in 1950. Jean Gorely was a respected authority on English ceramics and co-founder of the international Wedgwood Club. Her scholarship, including Old Wedgwood (14 volumes) and museum catalogues for the Fogg Museum at Harvard, helped establish the study of Wedgwood design within the decorative arts. She lectured widely and collaborated on cataloguing the famous Winthrop Collection of Wedgwood.
