Hardcover. Condition: Very Good Minus. 1st Edition. This is a surprisingly very rare book. I saw only one other copy for sale on the Internet. That one is not identified as a first edition. This book for sale is a first edition with the Rinehart colophon on the copyright page. This book was a gift from the parents of the to-be married couple Constance Mann and Robert Greiff. There are two newspaper clippings attached on two of the ten pages titled Clippings that end the book. Miss Mann, we learn, was an alumna of Vassar College, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and later did graduate work at New York University. Mr. Greiff have just graduated from the School of Engineering of Columbia University. He had served for three years in the Navy during World War II. The clippings are dated July 1951. They are from the New York Times and the New York Herald Tribune. The penned inscription on the first front end paper reads 'To Connie and Bob, With our deepest love, Dad and Mother.' The text of the book (with illustrations) runs 154 pages. There is no other writing to be found anywhere in the text. Nor are there any markings. After the text ends there are a good many unnumbered pages having everything to do with the wedding. For example, The Shower Gift Record, The Wedding Gift Record, The Bride's Wedding Invitation List, The Groom's Wedding Invitation List, Guests' Signatures, Arrangements For Flowers And Decorations, Clippings. A fair amount of these pages are filled in with information relating to the couple's wedding. The handwriting, very likely Ms. Manns, is very neat and small. You can see the covers of the book in the photos. They have some darkening at the margins and perhaps a little bit of handling soiling. You can see that there are two 1 inch tears at the junctures of the spine and front cover, one off the bottom edge and one off the top edge. There's also a small loss off the bottom edge of the spine and another small tear halfway down the spine, again at the junction with the front cover. The edges and corners of the covers are in good condition. The page edges are clean. The interior of the book is in very good condition. It is solidly bound. The pages are nicely tight. They're also quite clean. In scrolling through them, I didn't see any soiling. I didn't see creasing or dogeared corners. There is one tiny, tiny (1/16th of an inch) edge tear on the title page. There are no attachments other than the two clippings referenced. I googled Constance Mann and Robert Greiff. Constance Mann was the co-author of a book titled Princeton Architecture, 1967 (award AASLH 1968). She also authored books titled Lost America, (1970), John Notman, Architect, (1978), and Independence, (1987). The couple lived in Princeton, New Jersey.
