Griffin organized and commanded Company F, Sixty-ninth Regiment, New York Volunteer Infantry, in the Spanish-American War in 1898 and 1899. He founded and edited the Bronx Independent 1905-1907. Griffin was a member of the State Senate from 1911 to 1915 and member of the New York State Constitutional Convention in 1915.
