Add to basketSoft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. An attractive Depression-era popular adaptation of Antonín Dvorak's famous "Humoresque" (Humoreska No. 7, Op. 101), transformed into a vocal song with lyrics by Jerry Castillo and arranged specifically for the rapidly growing Hawaiian guitar and ukulele market of the 1930s. The stri…king Art Deco cover features NBC-Chicago performer Bill Krenz, reflecting the era's close relationship between radio personalities and sheet music promotion. Inside are separate arrangements for Hawaiian Guitar Solo by Bob Kaai and Ukulele by Jim Smock, making this a desirable crossover piece for collectors of Hawaiian music, vintage fretted-instrument instruction, and early radio memorabilia. This 1935 first edition is published by Calumet Music Company of Chicago with copyright dated 1935 on the interior music pages. The rear cover advertises numerous contemporary Calumet publications, providing a useful snapshot of popular music publishing during the mid-1930s. Condition: Very Good. Complete and clean with no writing, stamps, or missing pages observed. Original outer fold remains secure with no complete separation. Moderate age toning consistent with its age, light edge wear, small corner creases, and minor rubbing to the covers. A rectangular 'ghosting' to upper, right cover - likely from a price tag. No residue remaining. A few tiny edge nicks and gentle handling wear are present, but the music remains bright, highly readable, and structurally sound. This edition captures two important American musical trends converging in the mid-1930s. Dvorak's nineteenth-century concert favorite had long been adapted into popular music, but Calumet's version specifically targets the enormous popularity of Hawaiian guitar and ukulele instruction during the interwar years. The inclusion of arrangements by Bob Kaai, a respected Hawaiian guitarist and teacher, and Jim Smock, alongside an NBC publicity photograph of Chicago vocalist Bill Krenz, places the publication squarely within the golden age of radio broadcasting and the Hawaiian music craze that swept the United States during the 1920s and 1930s.
