Gr.-8°. Jagdgrüne gelatinierte Pappbände im Stil der Zeit mit goldgeprägten roten RSchildern d. Z. und RVergoldung. Titelauflage der dritten Ausgabe des Hauptwerks von dem aus Königsberg stammenden Forstmann und Autor Friedrich Ernst Jester (1743-1822), der auch schriftstellerisch tätig war und mehrere Dramen und Libretti verfasste. "Irreführend ist die Bezeichnung 'Dritte Auflage' auf dem Titelblatt, da es sich tatsächlich um die vierte handelt. Dieser Fehler in der Zählung wurde bei allen nachfolgenden Ausgaben fortgeführt" (Lindner). Die Frontispize zeigen: "Der Meisentanz und die Meisenleiter", "Die Krähenhütte", die großen Falttafeln mit Anleitungen zum Fallenbau und Fallenstellen sowie eine detaillierte Ansicht der Technik eines der damals modernsten Jagdgewehre mit einzelner Darstellung aller Teile. Die teils halbseitigen Textholzstiche mit weiteren zur Jagd notwendigen Gerätschaften etc. Titel mit kleinem Tintenfleck, sonst nur stellenweise leicht fleckig und minimal gewellt, bemerkenswert schönes Exemplar in sehr stilvollen, hervorragend gearbeiteten Einbänden. Still a charming copy from the library of Gunnar Brusewitz. Without parts VI-VIII. Lindner Bibliographie der deutschen und der niederländischen Jagdliteratur 11.1075.01. Schwerdt Hunting, hawking, shooting I:267. Collation differs between the two bibliographers, our copy correlates with Lindner's variant collation of part IV and V. The first four parts were issued in a second edition in 1797. In 1806-1808 three further sections on birds of prey and four-footed beasts were published, but which are not found here. A later edition was printed in 1859. Schwerdt evaluates this as "a good book written by a high official of the Prussian state forestry". Friedrich Ernst Jester (1743-1822) was a German writer and in addition to writing on hunting and forestry he worked as a noted playwright and librettist.
