This book offers a comprehensive look at the birth and development of modern Chinese brocade techniques, setting it against the backdrop of the expansive Belt and Road Initiative. As we navigate the intertwining threads of Chinese silk culture, classic cases of contemporary brocade art are beautifully showcased, spanning four distinct sections: Chinese Rites, Buddhist Art, Cheongsam, and Boutiques. Concluding with a thoughtful recap, the book encapsulates two decades of modern Chinese brocade, chronicling its enduring legacy and the tapestry of stories it weaves. Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. Dexter is the top goat at the petting zoo, but he's not the bravest, much to his embarrassment. He has the longest, smoothest, and straightest horns of all eleven goats, and he's very good at using them to keep the others in line. He's also a very good boy. Dexter never grabs the paper maps out of visitors' hands or sneaks into the alpaca pen for an afternoon grain snack. But he's secretly afraid of some things, like the generator, the big green ball, and--horror of horrors--having his hooves trimmed. Follow the zoo-yard adventures of this irascible goat and find what goes on inside his head as he learns to overcome his fears. AGES: 5-8 years AUTHOR: Jean M. Malone is a librarian, author of three All-Aboard Readers for Penguin, and a former Nashville Zoo volunteer. Jia Min Lim is a Hertfordshire creative who specialises in illustration, character design, and making bespoke stuffed toys. Dexter is the biggest, strongest, and most patient goat at the petting zoo, but that does not make it easier to stand still when the Keepers come to trim his hooves. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability. Jia Min Lim (illustrator).

Paperback. Condition: New. Far from the Model Minority centers the voices of five undocumented and mixed-status Chinese immigrant families in New York City and their sending communities in Fuzhou, China. Challenging dominant narratives about Chinese Americans and the model-minority myth, these families have experienced multigenerational exclusion from educational pathways and developed mobility strategies focused on attaining "face."In China, low social standing led them to prioritize immigration and remittance work over education, as overseas success became the primary way to garner face. Yet in the United States, undocumented status and poverty created new barriers to their and their children's acculturation, and the intersection of undocumented life and the culture of remittances often undermined the intended face gain for families back home and reinforced social stagnation. Based on four years of ethnographic research, Jia-Lin Liu's work explores how these transnational families respond to enduring structural exclusions by reimagining achievement and dignity across borders.
