Published by Hamilton Hamish, London, 1955
First Edition
Pictorial boards. Condition: Near Fine. James Thurber (illustrator). First Edition. A handsome copy of the 1955 1st edition, housed in the publisher's uncommon pictorial box. Clean and Near Fine in its pictorial boards. Oblong 12mo. 28 drawings by Thurber which orginally appeared in The New Yorker, here collected with a Foreword by Thurber and issued as a keepsake by his English publisher, Hamilton Hamish. There was no equivalent American edition; Hamilton Hamish issued "A Thurber Garland" without a dustjacket but enclosed it in a brown cardboard box which has a large pictorial mailing label with a Thurber drawing of a dog, beside which it reads "A Thurber Garland". Both the book and the box are in crisp, very sharp condition.
