Wear to edges with cloth starting to fray at corners and ends of spine; boards exposed in a few small spots; some scuffing and scratching; mild soiling; spine is slightly darkened. Both hinges are cracked, but binding remains fairly tight. Interior has a touch of toning and some light dampstaining that left a tidemark on the upper corner of most pages. Names of previous owners on the front free endpaper and rear free endpaper. Includes 25 black-and-white photos and illustrations on plates. All present as called for, but one has come loose from the binding and another is partially loose and has a large stain. Sidney Jocknick came to Colorado in 1870 where he worked as a cook at the Ute Agency, spent time as a cowpuncher, and later tried his hand at prospecting and ranching. This book details those experiences, including his involvement in the Alfred Packer affair, his friendship with Chief Ouray, and his connection to pioneering railroad builder Otto Mears.
