De 'Uytspanningen', Lodensteyns enige dichtbundel, werd voor het eerst gedrukt in 1676, na de zestiende druk van 1780 volgde in 1857 nog een Nieuwe uitgaaf. De liederen, gedrukt in een gotische letter, zijn alle voorzien van een zangwijs in notenschrift. In zijn voorrede adviseert Lodensteyn toon en maat houden, op dat het geen ongeschikt geroep en zy. [.] Men moet wel vry uyt de borst (als men zegt) zingen, dat is, de woorden niet binnens-monds mompelen, maar in ' t zingen klaar uyt-spreeken; dog ' t hardste schreeuwen en is het beste zingen niet.
