A thoroughly crossed-out, but still readable paragraph on p. 113 and some underlinings on p. 253. Signatures of Henrik Goës and Otto Goës, the former dated 1854. A small number label and stamps from K.F.U.M. [YMCA] in Linköping.Larson Swedish commentators on America 100. Compare Sabin 6235 for a Norwegian translation printed in Oslo the same year. The two city maps inserted in this copy, of Boston (at p. 76) and of New York (at p. 113) do not belong to the work. The most comprehensive of the early Swedish guides for emigrants. The book was widely read among Swedish emigrants and also contains excerpts from the works of other writers, for example Campanius Holm, Klinckowström, Arfwedson, Gosselman, Schéele, Cassel and Helleberg. It was an important source for Vilhelm Moberg when he wrote his emigrant series and he also wrote the foreword for the facsimile edition that was published in 1970. The signatures most likely belong to the brothers Henrik Goës (1833-1906), who studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts 1851-55 and ended his career as a stationmaster and Otto Goës (1845-1929), who, according to a Swedish biographical source, was a clerk at The Colorado Fuel and Iron Company in Pueblo.
