Bibliographisches Grundlagenwerk des Historikers und Orientalisten Johann Gottfried Eichhorn (1752 - 1827) mit Beiträgen aus allen Bereichen der Bibelkunde, der orientalischen Philologie sowie weiteren Teildisziplinen des Orientalismus, unter anderem auch zur orientalischen Numismatik. Im Gesamtumfang von ca. 5000 Seiten. Eichhorn selbst ist in dem Werk selbst mit "Bemerkungen über den Text des Propheten Jeremias" vertreten, außerdem fungierte er als Herausgeber der "Briefe über das Arabische Münzwesen" des Arabisten und Byzantinisten Johann Jacob Reiske (1716 - 1774), der als Begründer der arabischen Philologie als eigenständiger Wissenschaftsdisziplin gilt (Bd. 9, S. 199 - 268; Bd. 17, S. 209 - 284, Bd. 18, S. 1 - 78). Eichhorn lehrte von 1775 an als Professor für orientalische Sprachen an der Universität Jena, 1788 wurde er als Professor der Philosophie an die Universität Göttingen berufen. Als weiteres von ihm herausgegebenes bibliographisches Reihenwerk ist die "Allgemeine Bibliothek der biblischen Litteratur" zu nennen, die von 1787 bis 1803 in zehn Bänden erschien. Einbände etwas berieben, Rückenschilder teilweise mit kleineren Fehlstellen (bei Bd. 1 ganz fehlend); vor allem Vorsätze und erste Seiten partiell fleckig; Seiten sonst überwiegend sauber, partiell etwas fleckig bzw. gebräunt.
