Good copy. - Johan Sems or Semp (1572-1635) was a Dutch cartographer, surveyor, and engineer. Jan Pietersz. Dou (1615-1682) was "undoubtedly the most famous surveyor ever to have served the Rijnland Water Board"Koeman, Geschiedenis van de Kartografie v. Nederland, p. 60). Together they wrote the work 'Practijck des lantmetens'. This influential 17th-century work provides a comprehensive guide to land surveying techniques and geometry, vital for engineers and surveyors of the time. Originally published in 1600, it includes detailed instructions, practical applications, and the latest technological developments in land measurement. The book features numerous geometric illustrations and fold-out plates. The work was used in the training program for engineers, organized by Simon Stevin. It illustrates the scientific and engineering advancements of the Dutch Golden Age, contributing significantly to land surveying practices and cartography.
