The work progresses from simple phonetic exercises and illustrated word lessons to short reading passages, while also incorporating guidance on reading aloud with references to classical orators including Demosthenes and Cicero. Spine largely perished with only a small portion remaining towards rear joint. Internally, gatherings from 3-95 very loose, retaining only the lowest sewing. Gatherings from p.96 onwards firmer, retaining sewing and potion of spine, hinges strained in places, but holding.
