Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Arthur Layard (illustrator). A pictorial board Hardcover, lavishly decorated in bright gold on burgundy boards with a nautical scene on the front board and coats of arms on the spine and back board. Ex. library. 444 rough cut pages, gilt edge on the top surface, index, illustrated with tissue guarded frontispiece and b/w drawings throughout. This book is in extraordinary condition, having had minimal handling. There is just a little very light edge and corner wear. You are unlikely to see another in this excellent condition. Contents clean, tight and bright. Book.

'The Marvellous Adventures Of Sir John Maundevile Kt - Being his Voyage and Travel which treateth of the Way to Jerusalem and of the Marvels of Ind with other Islands and Countries' ~ Edited and Profusely Illustrated by Arthur Layard with a Preface by John Cameron Grant; pub by Archibald Constable & Co, London 1895, 1st Edition; very decorative front cover & spine - dark red cloth with gilt patterns of ships and the title; side edge uncut, 8vo, xxx + 416pps, incl numerous very attractive b&w illustr, frontispiece with tissue; top & bottom of spine slightly snagged, several small cracks to inside front covers; book quite tight in binding and in good condition.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Boards show a bit of wear to corners and cracking along leading edge of spine; binding tight; pages clean with 'R725' printed on a forward blank page. A truly odd work: a somewhat racist novel printed by a dubious British publisher of mostly erotica, with a foreword by a notorious white supremacist. Seems to have been published in a few different formats. Go figure. 287 pages + 12 pages of 'some of Mr. Charles Carrington's new and forthcoming English works.'.

Decorative Cloth. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Arthur Layard (illustrator). 1st Edition. A very good copy in the original decorative cloth binding with full page illustrations, decorative initials, tailpieces and vignettes by Arthur Layard. Scarce and based on an original manuscript which surfaced in Paris in 1357. The binding has very bright boards and a slightly faded spine. The spine has pulling to the ends. The bottom corner of the front board is turned - the back bottom corner has a bump. Internally the front endpapers have a split at the joint. There is an inscription dated 1895 to the verso of the fep. The contents are complete and very clean with a large number of pages unopened. There is light spotting to the verso of the fep and the initial blank, and some spotting to the final leaf and recto of the rep. Top page edges are gilted and the side edges are slightly roughly cut with some spotting at the foredge occasionally visible in side margins.
