Adams', Observatory, Cambridge, 27 October 1866, to G. C. Whitley, accepting the invitation of the Union Society to be present at the inauguration of the New Buildings on the following Friday, all 1 page on black-edged mourning stationery, integral blank leaves. John Couch Adams 1819 - 1892 was a British mathematician and astronomer. His most famous achievement was predicting the existence and position of Neptune, using only mathematics. The calculations were made to explain discrepancies with Uranus's orbit and the laws of Kepler and Newton. Adams explained the origin of meteor showers, which holds to the present day.
