Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is the first annual report by the Board of Railroad Commissioners for the State of New York. Taking a historical approach, it reports on the railroad conditions of the state from 1883 to the present. The Board was established to provide oversight of the railroad industry, whi…ch had expanded rapidly during the previous decades and had become a vital part of the nation's economy. The book analyzes key issues surrounding railroad development in New York, including the construction of new lines, railroad consolidation, and the regulation of railroad rates. The report also includes statistics documenting the growth of the railroad industry and its impact on the state's economy. By providing insights into the historical development of the railroad industry and its ongoing challenges, this book is a significant contribution to the historiography of the American transportation system. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

A little rubbing on covers. A primary source for study of the Pullman Strike. These hearings were held by the Federal government. The Pullman Strike began May 11, 1894, and ended on July 20 of that year. Workers at the Pullman Company had suffered wage cuts as a result of the 1893 recession. The largest labor union in the country at that time was the Eugene V. Debs-led American Railway Union. They and the workers at the Pullman Company, organized a Pullman boycott in which members of the the ARU refused to drive trains with Pullman cars .This led to a nation-wide halt in freight and passenger traffic on the railroads. 12,000 federal troops arrived in Chicago to put down the strike, which lead to 30 deaths and 57 injuries, all suffered by members of the strike. Debs and the Union were ultimately charged with obstruction of the United States mail. Chicago, Labor, Railroads, ARU. Studio.
