Shallow dampstain along bottom edges of both covers, with dye lightening, evident through most of interior in bottom margins as a cosmetic distractio…n, nothing profound. Stated 1st ed. xxvi,287 pp. Copy owned by Abstract Expressionist painter Robert Motherwell (1915-1991), who inscribed the title page with his name, date (1 Feb. 1938), and "Harvard University," where he majored in philosophy. Given this provenance, we are tempted to attribute the dampstaining, modest as it is, to a raucous New York School party attended by De Kooning and Jackson Pollock involving much wine and merriment, though lacking evidence, we admit that the actual circumstances are likely far more prosaic. In any case, a unique copy. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book.
