Stapled Binding. Condition: Very Good. Book is clean with a square, tight binding and bright, white pages. Book has minor wear on the edges that is difficult to see in the scans. This book is Volume VIII of the publications of the Socorro County Historical Society. Smith used a Rochester camera, which was introduced by the Rochester Camera Company in December, 1899, and produced in essentially the same form until 1903. The wet-plate camera shown above was probably the one he used most of the time. He is known to have had another, larger camera, the one which took the family photo, but it has since vanished. The other photos on this page are of his plate holders and a retouching desk, representative of the equipment in a photographer's studio of that period. The book you see in the images is the actual book we have for sale. Why pay more? When you buy this book from us, you are helping to support a small brick and mortar family owned store. First Edition
[AUTOMOBILE TRIP]. First edition. 4to. Story appears in New Mexico Architecture Magazine, Vol. 17, No. 6, Nov,-Dec, 1975. Pictorial wrappers, 11-19 pp., double column, illustrated from photographs, map, advertisements. You leave Albuquerque, New Mexico, on I-25, connect with US 60 at Socorro, and head for Springerville, Arizona. It's a 219-mile drive. At 55 miles an hour, the trip takes about four hours. Suppose you had to make the same trip in the early 1920's? A delightful tale of a trip sponsored by the Butler Auto Co. of Albuquerque, complete with fourteen vintage photographs, including one of turning the car upside down to make a repair. A wonderful tale of an automobile journey taken "sometime after 1919, probably not far into the 1920's, and certainly before 1927." Fine copy.
