    Paper. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. An Original Handwritten and Signed Letter from Dartmouth MP John Jeffreys to Lieutenant-General John Manners, Marquess of Granby. Dated 1763. A long letter to Lieutenant-General John Manners, Marquess of Granby discussing the death of Mr Summers, Master Gunner of the castle of Dartmouth and soliciting the appointment of Nicholas Brooking. John Jeffreys 1706 -1766 of The Priory, Brecon, and Sheen, Surrey, was a Welsh politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1734 to 1766. He lost a fortune gambling but was awarded lucrative public positions under successive Administrations. Lieutenant-General John Manners, Marquess of Granby 1721 - 1770 was a British Army officer and politician. The eldest son of John Manners, 3rd Duke of Rutland, as he did not outlive his father and inherit the dukedom, Manners was known by his father's subsidiary title, Marquess of Granby. He served in the military during the Jacobite rising of 1745 and the Seven Years' War, being subsequently rewarded with the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Forces. Size is 228mm x 185mm. In good condition. Age toned. Folding creases. Gum residue to rear edge. Ref 19048. Signed by Author(s).

A letter addressed Arlington Street (the family's London residence) in the 3rd Person to a Mrs Jackson sending his compliments and two pictures of the King & Queen and one of the late Lord Chatham and he proposes to shortly call on Mrs Jackson. John Jeffreys Pratt, 1st Marquess Camden ( 1759 - 1840), styled Viscount Bayham from 1786 to 1794 and known as the 2nd Earl Camden from 1794 to 1812, was a British politician. He served as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland in the revolutionary years 1795 to 1798 and as Secretary of State for War and the Colonies between 1804 and 1805. Size is 182mm x 101mm. Condition is good.
