First edition, 1 of 1000 copies, and inscribed by the editor & compiler, John Leale's daughter Marion of this remarkable autobiography from the original manuscript of this pioneering steamboat, and ferryboat captain venturing up the Sacramento River among the tule rushes, and crisscrossing San Francisco Bay on ferryboats. Urged on by famed Alexander Robertson, San Francisco bookseller, John under the encouragement of his daughters had written his autobiography, later substantially added and annotated with interpolations by his daughter.

Five broadsides, each measuring approximately 8½" x 12" and with an original Signed etching; the artists are James Parfitt, Cherry Hulls, George Szirtes, Paul Martin, and Clarissa Upchurch. Accompanied by a smaller, letterpress-printed title page and an ad for the Dodman press, laid into a portfolio with printed paper label. The broadsides are fine and the portfolio is just about near fine with some creasing at two corners. Each broadside is Signed by both the poet and artist. A handsome production, printed on handmade paper, issued in 55 sets only. The poems are "Visiting" by John Cotton; "Ad Hoc" by Wendy Freeman; "Offer (For Bernard J. Freeman)" by B. C.
