Based on the diary of John MacGavock Grider, an American who served as a pilot in WWI, After he was shot down in June 1918 his friend Captain Elliott White Springs published the diary. The book is illustrated with drawings by Clayton Knight, including the dust jacket. The first edition was published by George H. Doran and was issued with two different dust jacket illustrations of Clayton Knight, the above mentioned and one with a dogfight. This copy is published by Grosset & Dunlap, also in 1926. Dust jacket worn and with a chip from the top of the spine which only leaves the word Birds from the title. Very small paper losses at the bottom of the spine and along the top edges. Some light foxing on the title page and the end paper. Inside clean and very good. 277 pages. In all a very fine copy.
