This study is complemented by a discussion of geography and history during these periods, with particular attention to the lands and individuals of the Levant or Eastern Mediterranean under the dominion of the Turks. It offers a rare and detailed account of the first architecture, sculpture, and engineering techniques of the ancient world, considering the development of tombs from their humble beginnings as natural caves used by the earliest humans to the sophisticated and awe-inspiring structures commissioned by the pharaohs of Egypt. The author draws upon the work of other scholars and travelers and augments this information with his own observations and insights. The result is an invaluable resource for anyone interested in the history of architecture, religion, or the development of human civilization. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
