Book has former price in red pencil on FFE, light wear to spine ends. DJ has color fading to spine and front panel, some wear to spine ends, light edge wear. 12 b & w illustrations, 4 maps. Includes sources, family tree, bibliography and index. Marsh went to the California gold fields to make his fortune (and didn't), on to Oregon (various unsuccessful business ventures and back to Baltimore and his wife and two children. Added 2 more children and the lived a respected and productive life. In his letters to his wife, he gives wonderful descriptions of the gold fields and of the young territory of Oregon. Nice copy.
