Second edition. Bound in the publisher's cloth in an unclipped dust wrapper. The wrapper is worn throughout, with significant loss to the head of the spine, losses along the joints and at the edges and corners; heavily scratching and rubbing to the panels. The spine is spotted and sullied; the panels are a little grubby similarly. The book itself is generally smart externally; there is discolouration and bumping at the edges, and loss / nibble damage to the upper corner of the rear board. Ownership bookplate to the front pastedown. The binding is rather shaken commensurate with its size. Pages are toned at the edges, but generally clean. A second edition, complete in the dust wrapper.

In fact, it is so signficantly changed from the original 1932 edition, that is more like a new work. The title was changed to include Eastern Africa to reflect the expanded area it covers, and the book has over 1000 additional pages. Illustrated with botanical color paintings, black and white drawings and photographs, some in color. Bibliography, European names, vernacular names, active principles, index and more. pp. xii 1457. Very good+ in gray cloth in a very good dust jacket (previous owner's name and stamp, some rubbing to the dj). A very large and heavy book.
