Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Signed (without inscription) by W.W. Newcomb, Jr. and A. Garland Adair, Director and Curator, respectively, of the Texas Memorial Museum. Mr. Adair was clearly running out of ink as he signed, and though dated below his signature, he or someone else re-traced the date (3-28-61) with a red pencil. Very Good Minus/no dust jacket. White pictorial boards mildly foxed. Endpages have a couple of small stains. Binding is sound and contents, comprised of cartoons as well as letters and photos of the former House Speaker and Vice President from Uvalde, Texas, remain in nice shape.

Anthony Garland Adair was a Newspaper Editor, World War I Veteran, American Legion Commander, Instrumental in the creation of the Texas Memorial Museum in Austin; he was curator of History there until his retirement in 1959. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Inscribed by Major General Paul Wakefield on front end page. Bound in publisher's pictorial cloth. Hardcover. No dust jacket. Good binding and cover. Shelf wear. Paul Louis Wakefield served as an enlisted man in the United States Army in France in World War I. As a newspaperman immediately after the war, Wakefield was with the United Press in Paris and New York. He was on the staff of the Houston Chronicle for ten years and was Texas correspondent for the New York Herald-Tribune during the time of Stanley Walker's editorship. He also wrote special correspondence for the old New York World. In 1927 he was appointed first lieutenant in the Texas National Guard. Over the years he rose to the grade of major general, and in 1949 he was appointed state director of selective service; he retired in 1955. Wakefield served as an aide to governors Ross S. Sterling and Coke R. Stevenson. He was appointed to the planning board of the Public Works Administration in 1934, was at one time a member of the staff of Vice President John Nance Garner, and served as an assistant to Jesse Holman Jones.
