No Binding. Condition: Good. John Canady (illustrator). Keepsake. Announcement keepsake of Fifth Peters Rushton Seminar in Contemporary Prose and Poetry, held 7 November 1952, featuring Pearson's address on Stein. One letter size sheet folded into a card. Cover illustration is by John Canady, an piece "now at the Ecole du Louvre. This dense abstract pattern in pink he has made by taing a rubbing from a wall on the Place du Tertre, which while not the locale in Paris most closely asscoaited with G. Stein (the Rue de Fleurus presents no such archaeological remains) is still a place Stein knew and visited and remains associated with the circle of writers and painters she knew and influenced. The lettering, clipped from French journals, is full of the kind of writing Gertrude Stein would haev understood: the separation of "Stein" into Ste," and the French abbreviation for female saint, referring to her recent sanctification, but with the 'e' small, because she minimilaized her own femininity. . .The contrasting over-delicate and over-feminine bird bath and bow knot as well as the rubbing, we leave to the audience. Offset impression by Conrad Poluito. Includes quote from unpublished essay by Gertrude Stein, "Realism in Novels" (1943), with permission by Carl Van Vechten. FITZ.
