Contact seller5-star sellerFirst edition. One of a limited edition of 91 copies. 4to, 201 pp, bound in card boards backed with cloth tape, with illustrated woodcut pastedown to cover. Mimeographed from typescript and Illustrated with five double paged woodcut prints on heavy paper, and additional woodcuts within the text, all by John Ricklefs. First editi…on of Perlman's first book, in which the text and the construction of the book marry in a full-throated cry against the corporate structures of late capitalism. As Perlman writes on the colophon, "The materials that went into the making of this book include mimeograph paper, heavy paper, fiber-board for the covers, and a small hand-cranked silk-screen mimeograph machine. Each chapter is held together by large staples, and the chapters are held to each other (bound) by cloth adhesive tape. The cuts were hand printed from relief wood blocks. The choice of materials was influenced by the extremely limited financial means of author and artist, but both hope their attempt to make a book whose outward shape was consistent with its content has been successful enough to encourage others to follow their example." Some darkening to the spine, and light wear to boards, quite clean within. A very good or better example.

First edition of Perlman's extremely rare first book, an anti-capitalist livre d'artiste. Text mimeographed. Illustrations by Ricklefs throughout, including FIVE DOUBLE-PAGE COLOR-PRINTED WOODCUTS ON FINE WOVE PAPER. Edition limited to 91 numbered copies. THIS COPY BELONGED TO RENOWNED SOCIOLOGIST DAVID RIESMAN, WITH HIS OWNERSH…IP SIGNATURE. Perlman greatly admired Riesman, and likely sent him this copy as a gift. 4to. Cardboard covers. Minimal wear to extremities, else fine and bright. An excellent association copy of a very rare and bizarre book.
