This is a nice rare nonfiction booklet about the true accounts of Gold Mining at Bodie Bluff California together with some account of The Alkali Waters of Mono Lake "The Dead Sea of the West" called Vintage Reading, conducted by R. & V. Buday. The booklet has a cluff mark where price sticker once was, otherwise minor wear and in good condition with tight binding, some nice black and white photographs and 72 pages. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

This book recounts the author's 1863 treacherous journey through Arizona and New Mexico as well as his subsequent travels to Virginia City, the Comstock Lode and the mines of northern Nevada. He aptly describes the differences in lifestyles of the inhabitants of AZ and NM barely scraping by to those of the prosperous miners and people in Nevada. Told with wit and candor and accompanied with over 150 of the author's drawings. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket.

The book offered here is one of the "Vintage Reading" series, published in 1993. It is a compilation of several titles, the main ones (listed on the cover) are as follows : "True Accounts of Gold Mining at Bodie Bluff, California" ; "The Alkali Waters of Mono Lake - the Dead Sea of the West in the Sierra Nevada". Of note is the inclusion of an 1893 short story by 19th Century Nevada author, F. Hayden Carruth ("The Cash Money of Sunset City"). The book is generously illustrated with reproductions of old engravings, halftone photographs, and a few detailed line maps, which are nice and clear.
